Icebreaker 🧊

What is the most "holy" place you've ever been? This could be a sacred space (like a cathedral) or a secure space (like a highly-protected vault).

What made it feel so holy?

Digging Deeper 🧭

  1. Divide up the follow excerpts among your members:
    • Leviticus 10:1-3
    • Leviticus 16:1-2
    • Leviticus 16:3-10, 17
    • Leviticus 16:29-34

Now have each person read their text and then answer the three following questions:

  • What? - What happened in your text?
  • So what? - Why is that important? Why is it in the Bible?
  • Now what? – What could be a point of application in how we think, speak, or act?

If your group has more than four group members, pair them up so that multiple people are studying the same text.

  1. From these texts, what do we learn about ...

    • ... how the Israelites were to approach God?
    • ... how sin was removed?
  2. Let's consider Jesus.

    • According to Hebrews 9:24, what place did Jesus enter? Why is this better?
    • In contrast to the high priest in Leviticus 16:11, what did Jesus need to offer according to Hebrews 7:26-27?
    • In contrast to Leviticus 16:14-16 and Leviticus 16:34, how is Jesus different according to Hebrews 9:25-26?

Next Steps 👣

  1. Thoughtfully read Hebrews 9:11-15. How does this text ring differently as a result of studying Leviticus 16?

  2. Do you ever wish you had a greater sense of the holiness of God? Why or why not? What can your group do to spur one another in this?
