Scheduling Around Priorities

Posted by Ben Malan

Hello Parents and Coworkers,

If you have children who are school-aged, you know that school will be starting up in a couple more weeks. Before the busy-ness of school begins, this would be a great time to think through the various priorities that your family will face. Certainly, schoolwork and extra-curricular activitis are important priorities, but what about other things like spiritual growth and family life? How do these kinds of things rank on your priority list? If they are at the top of the list--and I hope they are--I'd encourage you to start thinking through ways to take the initiative to protect them. For example:

  • When your children are flooded with reading and other assignments, what will you do to help your children spend time in God's Word?
  • When various opportunities arise on Sunday mornings, what will you to do help your family faithfully attend church?
  • When your family members are pulled in many different directions, what will you do to maintain a sense of family integration?

Scheduling your life around the priorities of spiritual growth and family life can encourage your children to own those priorities for themselves. It will also catch the attention of unchurched families as they see you taking a stand for higher priorities than the world typically has.

Last Week (July 25)

Sunday Theme In 1 Samuel 13 (and and chapter 15) we see that Saul disobeyed God's direct instructions. Although Saul thought he had good reason to disobey, God thought differently and decided to replace him as king.

This Week (August 1)

Sunday Theme Since Saul disobeyed God's instructions, God chose to replace him with another king. Check out 1 Samuel 16:1-13 to see who that king was and how God's discernment is different than that of humans.

Children's Ministry Library We had several children participate in the Summer Reading Program, and nine of them read the 5 books necessary to earn a prize! I hope that your families continue to find the resources helpful and interesting!

Looking Ahead

  • August 15: Faithweaver Curriculum Training from 2:30-4:30.
  • August 29: Children's Ministry Sunday
  • September 19: Mandatory parent lunch meeting. Parents, have you gotten a chance to read the book Raising a Modern-Day Joseph? If not, please make plans to read it by the end of August! You can borrow it from the CM Library for free or purchase it from me for $10.

Serving the Lord until we see Him face to face,
