Lent

We are now in the fourth week of Lent, a time of preparation as we journey to the cross on Good Friday and the resurrection on Easter Sunday. To help you prepare, read this week's thought.

Sunday Worship

Last Sunday we saw four characteristics of followers of Jesus. [sermon audio and resources here]

This Sunday we have Sunday School at 9:30 am. This is our last class for the quarter! Our next quarter starts on 4/4 @ 9:30 am where we'll be exploring what the church is. The class is entitled "Churching" and will explore the following questions:

  • But what is the church?
  • What is the church's purpose?
  • How should we live as the church?
  • What should our relationship be to the church?

At 11 am we join together for our Sunday worship service where we'll be exploring the transformational teaching of Jesus in Luke 6:17-49

Prayer

Please pray that we would be able to raise significant funds to fight hunger as we conclude our 30 Hour Famine fundraising.

Please pray for the ministry of Rev. Yang, Rev. & Mrs. Dich, and Alice overseas.

Please pray for the Spring Mission Revival conference that the Lord would use it to build up and encourage our church.

Please pray for those who will be baptized on 4/2. Pray that this would be a special time as they publicly respond to the Lord.

Please pray for those affected by the down economy -- particularly those in our own community.

Memory Verse

Friday Night Bible Study

This Friday, the youth will see that teaching through the Word and by example is an essential aspect of our commission. 1 Timothy 4:11-16 will be the main text.

Special note: Sometimes it is good to back up and get the big picture. The study which the Junior and Seniors are engaged in this year is called "Reverb." "Reverb focuses on the mission of God in the world. God has a mission for all mankind and for each person. This study educates students about God’s overarching plan as well as His individual plan for each person to impact the world around him. It’s made up of 8 six-week courses designed to keep your students engaged with the truth of God’s Word. From His motivating love to His call on our lives, we are meant to impact those around us."

Specifically, here are the 8 six-week courses:

i. Drive: The Mission of God in the World
ii. Step Out: Responding to God’s call
iii. The Answer: The Motivating Love of God
iv. Transfer: Disciple Making 101 [WE ARE HERE]
v. Empowered: A Look at the Holy Spirit
vi. The Crux: Romans and the Gospel Message
vii. Living Loud: People Whose Lives were Heard
viii. Squeeze: Getting through the Tough Times

And that is the big picture!

Word

gelid \JEL-id\, adjective:

Extremely cold; icy.

The weather is gelid on a recent Thursday night--so uninviting that it's hard to imagine anyone venturing out.
